NASA can create atomic number 8 on the surface of Mars

Just one month after NASA’s

rover Curiosity completed its initial Martian year on the surface of the superior planet, the world’s major house organization proclaimed its bold conceive to prepare the world for human arrival.

The Mars 2020 rover, which should land on the planet in 2021 and which is equipped with special instruments designed to convert carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to Mars in oxygen, is the most advanced project in NASA’s Mars Exploration Program. This could be useful for astronauts that will visit Mars in the future, but oxygen can also be used as a rocket fuel.

The key device, worth $ 1.9 billion, is called Moxy, it works as a motor, but “backwards”, and can make about two cubic decimeters of oxygen per hour.

If the device functions properly, a 100 times larger device is planned to be launched on Mars two years before the departure of astronauts on the Red Planet.
A larger device could produce enough oxygen for the return flight, long before astronauts reached Mars at all.

 

Another key concept of the mission in 2020 is the creation of a rocket fuel either from light hydrogen brought from Earth, or from chemicals found on the surface or in the atmosphere of Mars.

    I like this statement ” light hydrogen”. Indeed must be much easier to bring 1 kg of hydrogen because is lightweight from Earth then 1 kg of heavy lead or iron.
